Numerology is magic – there’s no doubt it’s a fascinating tool for business.

Numerology is becoming more and more popular alongside other holistic modalities. As a result of this, the subject is being dumbed down.  It is easy to Google ‘How do I work out my Life Path number or Personal Year?’ and get it wrong.  I regularly see people use numerology in a way that – isn’t quite right … also with regards to pricing and choosing event dates – and this has a huge impact on the results.

With its rise in popularity, many myths and misconceptions have surfaced – leading people to either dismiss it or misunderstand how to use numerology in business effectively.

So, let’s set the record straight and bust 13 myths about numerology in business!

Myth 1: Numerology is just ‘woo-woo’ and not a practical business tool

Truth: Numerology is based on esoteric energetic patterns that influence behaviour, decision-making and success. It offers insights that can help you make more aligned choices. Many successful business owners use Bizology® – whether for branding, launch dates, or team dynamics. It’s about strategy, not superstition!  It provides powerful insights, but success comes from action and integration of the business strategy. Using numerology as a guide can help you make choices that feel more aligned.

Myth 2: Your Life Path number alone determines your business success

Truth: Your Life Path number is important, but it’s not the only number that influences your business. Your deeper numeric chart, your name – ‘Expression’ and Personal Cosmic Currents – etc, all play a role. A Life Path 5, for example, thrives with variety and freedom, but if their business energies carry a lot of 4, they may find this restrictive (as you are not the number next to you!)  Looking at the complete numeric picture is key.

Myth 3: Your Personal Year runs from January to December

Truth: Your Personal Year STARTS on your birthday and RUNS until your next birthday, not from January to December as many numeric resources will lead you to believe. This means the energy of your Personal Year changes at a deeply personal level, not based on the calendar year. Understanding this helps you plan your business cycles more effectively – knowing when to push forward and when to take a step back.  Remember I always say … ‘there are better Personal Years and easier Personal Years to do things!’ …

Myth 4: We are currently experiencing a Personal Year 2

Truth: We are currently experiencing a Personal Year 11 NOT a Personal Year 2.

While 11 reduces to 2 (1+1 = 2), it is a Master Number that is not reduced during the calculation of the Personal Year and carries a much higher vibrational energy than the number 2. When working out the calculation, we use whole numbers and do not reduce to 2.  A master number 11 year is about intuition, Spiritual growth, and illumination – more dynamic and intense than a Personal Year 2, which is about balance and partnership.

Myth 5: 33 is a Life Path number

Truth: There is CURRENTLY no Life Path 33 in the Life Path calculation. The only Master Numbers Life Paths we are currently working with are 11 and 22. 33 is a powerful number in numerology, and it can appear in deeper areas of your numeric chart and in your name.  If you think you are a Life Path 33 – you are working with the energy of the number 6 – The Nurturer.  Historically people were working with 33, but it is not currently showing in the calculation.

Myth 6: You think you are a Life Path 4 but you may be a Life Path 22

Truth: You may have thought you were a Life Path 4, but in reality, you’re a Life Path 22. To double-check, you can use my Life Path app: https://josoley.com/LIFE-PATH-APP/.

When calculating the Life Path number – we use whole numbers rather than reducing every digit, ensuring we don’t overlook Master Numbers. If your final four digits end in 2011, 2002, 2020, or 2200, you are a Life Path 22. The number 0 represents God, so we gently move it aside, revealing the powerful Master Number 22. This is also the case with Life Path 11 and 2.

Many numerology books – and even a popular Sunday magazine article I once saved – incorrectly claim that Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, and Elton John are Life Path 4s (The Builder). However, they are Life Path 22s (The Architect of Change). These individuals are here to make a profound impact and require grit, vision, and stamina to fulfil their purpose.  This is why it’s crucial never to miscalculate a Master Number.

Myth 7: Personal and business numerology don’t need to match

Truth: While your business has its own numeric energies, it should work in harmony with your personal numbers. If there’s a mismatch between your Life Path and your Business energies, you may experience resistance or feel like things aren’t flowing. Aligning and awareness of both creates ease and success.

Myth 8: Changing your business name won’t make a difference

Truth: Every name holds a vibration, and your business name influences its success. If your business name doesn’t align with your energy or your audience, you may feel stuck. Changing your business name, even slightly, can bring it into a more aligned frequency with the mission and vision of the business.

Myth 9: Seeing 11:11 or repeating numbers means you’re ‘manifesting’ wealth

Truth: Many people associate repeating numbers (like 11:11, 222, or 555) with angel messages or signs of alignment. While they can be a message – it can also be a warning sign!  They are not a guarantee of success. True alignment comes from using numerology with strategy, action and purpose, not just noticing numbers on a clock.  It is about understanding what the numbers are trying to tell you and respecting the message.

Myth 10: Certain numbers are “bad” for business

Truth: No number is bad, but some numbers bring different types of challenges or lessons. For example, 8 as a number is linked to power and financial success – but if not managed, it can also bring issues, the key is to understand the energy and work with it, not fear it.

Myth 11: Your numbers can limit your potential

Truth: Numerology doesn’t limit you – it empowers you. If your Life Path suggests you’re naturally inclined toward a certain type of business, that doesn’t mean you can’t succeed in other areas. It is about understanding this to help you build a business in a way that feels natural and fulfilling. You can absolutely break the mould while still using your numbers to work smarter, not harder.

Myth 12: Numerology alone will make your business successful

Truth: Numerology is A LARGE part of the puzzle – BUT it won’t replace strong business strategy, marketing, or mindset work. But when used correctly, it enhances your decision-making, helping you work in a way that feels right for you. It’s about alignment, not shortcuts.

Myth 13: Dates like 1/1, 2/2, and 3/3 are magical ‘portal days’

Truth: These dates are not inherently magic portals – they are simply an accumulation of the numbers in the date. While repeated numbers can hold symbolic significance and may help people focus their intentions, the real power comes from understanding your Personal Year, Personal Month, and Universal Day energies – not just assuming that a repeating date automatically holds special meaning.

Relying on these dates as guaranteed moments of manifestation can be misleading. True energetic alignment comes from working with your own unique numerology cycles, not just collective patterns based on the calendar.
