Stephanie Rose McGovern, born on the 31st May and originally from Middlesborough began her career with the BBC network first working on Tomorrow’s World. She studied Science Communication and Policy at University College London,. At the age of 19, she was awarded the “Young Engineer of Britain” after saving Black & Decker £150,000 a year by improving production techniques used for the Leaf Hog product.
Steph McGovern has served as a moderator at an UNCTAD conference, has presented BBC Breakfast show, BBC Radio 5 Live’s Wake Up to Money and On the Money and presented Pocket Money Pitch for CBBC. She has co-presented the consumer series Shop Well for Less with Alex Jones for BBC1. Steph also joined the BBC’s Watchdog presenting team and co-presented Can Britain Have a Pay Rise? for BBC Two and has been both a panellist and host on Have I Got News for You.
She is also a mentor for young people in her native Teesside and regularly runs workshops for school children around the North East. She’s a former champion Irish dancer and still keeps her foot in, often attending international competitions, where she helps to coach dancers.
