I once heard a coach say, ‘Your one job is to solve your ideal client’s problem’. This really stuck with me.
We are in the business of solving problems, people do not buy their way into something – they buy their way out of something.
Someone who is great at solving problems is Jamie Oliver.
His market told him … ‘Recipes take too long …’ – so he gave them ‘Jamie’s 30 Minutes meals’.
His market then told him ’30 minutes is too long; it can take that just to prep’ – so he gave them ‘Jamie’s 15-minute meals’.
His market then told him ‘There are too many ingredients’ – so he came up with ‘5 ingredients’.
His market then told him ‘It is too expensive to buy these ingredients’ – so he came up with ‘Save with Jamie’.
His market told him ‘There is too much washing up’ – so he came up with ‘One Pan Wonders’.
Be the solution to your clients’ problems. Look at the headaches that they face and create an antidote to this.
People act on emotion not logic.
We need to show our ideal clients that we know how to solve their problems and that we have done this for others.
A common mistake in marketing that people make is failing to present benefits. People buy benefits first. We need to get clear on the problems and pain points that our ideal clients have and that we have a solution to solve it.
Your ideal prospect will be asking themselves WIIFM – what’s in it for me?
So, we need to be clear on the problem our ideal clients have and how to solve them. Don’t talk about yourself too much – people don’t care! Sounds blunt – but it’s true – your ideal client is busy and just wants to know how you can help them!
What are you offering your clients? What are the benefits of the offer and what are the results?
Your job is to show your target market that …
1. We know their pain points AKA their problems
2. We understand how this is affecting their lives and aggravating them for moving forward
3. We have a solution that addresses their problems that will help them
It’s that simple!
